With Veterans Day this past week, hockey teams are gathering in Cambria County this weekend to support those who keep us safe.
The Johnstown Generals are hosting their second annual “Veterans Day Tournament” at the War Memorial this weekend.
Five hockey teams are coming from all over the area to play and Saturday was “veterans appreciation night.”
The number 22 was retired, to represent the number of veterans who take their lives every single day.
They also dedicated sections 19 and 20 of the arena, to the American Legion, for their help in supporting veterans.
In addition to raising money for veterans causes, the tournament also raises money for hockey coach Steve Carlson, who is battling cancer.
“We recognize what Steve has done for the community and for hockey. For myself, Steve taught me how to ice skate years ago. When this happened, after the appearances he made, and the help he’s given us to get teams into this area, and what he’s done for the community, this was a no brainer.”
