Johnstown Generals

The Johnstown Generals wrapped up their second annual Veterans Day tournament this morning. Hockey teams and fans from across Pennsylvania came to the Cambria County War memorial over the weekend to watch the games.

Last night was Veterans Appreciation Night and they say the number 22 was retired to represent the number of veterans who take their lives every day.

Organizers also dedicated Sections 19 and 20 of the arena to the American Legion for their support for local veterans. And they also raised funds for hockey coach Steve Carlson, who was battling cancer.

“We recognize what Steve has done for the community and for hockey for myself.

Steve taught me how to ice skate years ago. So when when this happened, after the appearances he made and help, he’s given us to get teams into this area and what he’s done for the community. This was a no brainer.”

The Johnstown Generals are a veteran hockey team with members from multiple branches of the United States armed forces. The team helps transition members from the battlefield to civilian life by using hockey to assist with that
process. And they also have a website and Facebook page if you’d like to learn more about them.
