Students are back in the classroom and parents are back at work after many worked from home throughout the pandemic.
A combination that’s been hard on some families.
Some parents who used to be able to stay at home with their kids have had to get a job to make ends meet when their work day is longer than their kid’s school day.
So many are faced with the problem of who can watch them after school as childcare isn’t always an option.
But in Johnstown there are some free after school resources parents can use to help them out.
One being the Flood City Youth Fitness Academy, Safe Haven after school program.
Kids are given a free dinner can use the roller skating rink, playground and they even have a fitness program.
But organizers say the most important of all is the one on one tutoring kids get.
“Every day they get at least a half an hour of tutoring and then we report those results to the Greater Johnstown School District and we’ve already seen for example grade increases by these children, more confidence in what they’re doing”
Kids in the Coopersdale and Oakhurst neighborhoods also have access to the Learning Lamps free after school program.
