Interim City Manager

New leadership is coming to the city of Johnstown starting with a new interim city manager.

The council announced earlier this month Dan Penatzer will fill the part time role for the rest of 2021.

“I’m very familiar with the city, the city’s neighborhoods, a lot of the players, a lot of its history. So, they saw me as a fit for the job, and it piqued my interest.”

Penetzer recently retired as the Ebensburg Borough manager a position he filled for the last 24 years.

This new intrim is replacing interim manager John Trant.

Penatzer said that’s part of his goal stopping this cycle of fill in managers and find someone for good.

“And in doing so, we want to introduce some continuity here in Johnstown to the manager’s role. They’ve gone through quite a number of interim managers and city managers, we need to get some continuity here.”

Penetzar said movement is also being made on the hiring of a new police chief for the Johnstown Police Department.

“A selection has been made for the full-time chief’s position. It’s expected to be filled at the end near the end – of April. They city has not announced who that – hasn’t announced who was selected yet.”

In the meantime he said they’re on the lookout for a long term city manager and an assistant.

We’ll keep you posted on the new police chief in the upcoming weeks as we learn more about it.
