Honeybee Research at Penn State

Honeybees contribute at least 19.2 billion dollars to the United States economy each year and an additional 4.7 billion dollars through the honey industry! Unfortunately, honeybee populations have declined by 61% in the U.S. during the past 70 years, and beekeepers expect to lose an average of 40% of their colonies each year.  Researchers at Penn State and Perdue Universities have teamed up to help beekeepers find the bee stocks that will work best for their individual operations. Our producers, Cristi Kimmel and Jill Ream, visited with Penn State Researchers to find out more about the project.
