Greater Johnstown School District Town Hall Meeting

Greater Johnstown School District is hosted a Town Hall that’s about to start about the continued spike in violence inside school halls and possible solutions to the problem.

Over the past many months, there has been headline after headline about fights leading to arrests, and other cases of misconduct within school halls much of it amplified by videos on social media showing the violence and misbehavior.

Parents and community leaders have been vocal at recent school board meetings…that not enough is being done to stop it. The Greater Johnstown Education Association cited violence as one of the many issues that led to them announcing in April a vote of no confidence against Superintendent Amy Arcurio.

Arcurio put blame on the escalating situation to the pandemic, a general lack of respect for authority, and limited funding in the district but also said the board as been hiring more security and social workers, and purchasing metal detectors and security cameras to combat the problem.

Though the school board has said they support Arcurio, they did agree last month that more needs to be done to curb the troubling trends that’s why people will be given the chance to talk about the issues and possible solutions to the behavioral challenges in the district.
