Fire in the Sky

Many social media users around the Pittsburgh area reported seeing a streaking fireball shortly after 4 a.m. Wednesday.

An expert says that a flash lit up the skies over parts of Pennsylvania and Ohio in the wee hours was most likely a random meteor, according to the Associated Press.

It remained in the skies for a short time before disappearing from view.

A truck driver in Bedford County captured video of the likely meteor while driving on Interstate 76 between Bedford and Breezewood.

Trucker Beetle Bailey said he caught the fireball on his dashcam near mile marker 150 just before 5:30 a.m.

The American Meteor Society says it received more than 320 reports of the bright fireball.

An official with the nonprofit says it was probably a random meteor not associated with any known meteor shower, the Associated Press reports.
