Fatal Scalp Ave. Accident Update

Authorities say one of three people injured in a multi-vehicle crash Tuesday night on Scalp Ave. in Cambria County has died.

Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees says 20-year-old Toby Shreffler from Windber died Wednesday evening in the ICU at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center.

He was pronounced dead at 4:55 p.m.

Lees says Shreffler was the passenger in the car being driven by his sister as they pulled out of Kentucky Fried Chicken onto Scalp Ave. in Richland Township.

He says their vehicle was hit on the driver’s side by a vehicle driving west toward the city of Johnstown.

District Attorney Greg Neugebauer says the crash is under full investigation and charges are likely to be filed pending the outcome of the investigation.

He says investigators are looking at speed, and potential intoxication as factors contributing to the crash which will be determined by toxicology reports and accident reconstruction.

“Generally speaking, this incident is a reminder to drive the speed limit, be aware of your surroundings because a vehicle accident can turn deadly in an instant a 20 year old male is dead because of this and it’s a completely avoidable tragedy,”

“I’m hoping to see a lot of people from the Johnstown area to come out and support this cause to have a community hug to give to the family and whatever else that may be.”
