One child has died and three other individuals were transported to the hospital after a fire ripped through one Johnstown home, according to Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees.
Cambria County dispatchers say crews were called to a second alarm house fire with entrapment along Clover Street in the Moxham Section of Johnstown just after 2AM Sunday morning.
“When firefighters arrived, they had heavy fire involvement on the second floor extending into the attic area,”
Lees said there were four people inside the home at the time of the fire.
He said one person was out upon arrival of the fire department.
“There were three individuals trapped inside the home: one adult and two children,” Lees said.
Lees said the adult and a five-year-old boy were rescued by firefighters and initially taken to Conemaugh Hospital in Johnstown.
“Unfortunately, the second child has passed away,”
Lees identified the child as 4-year-old Feya Ferguson, saying the cause of her death was from thermal and inhalation injuries.
Lees said she had third and fourth degree burns on over 80-percent of her body.
Her death was ruled accidental.
Johnstown Fire Chief Robert Statler says the two adults have since been transferred to the West Penn Burn Center, and the rescued child was transported to a hospital in Pittsburgh.
All three individuals are in critical condition.
The Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshall Unit was also on scene.
“It’s a very difficult time for these first responders in dealing with the death of a child,” Lees said.
Lees said they’re still in the early stages of the investigation.
“All the first responders that arrived that responded on this call did a fabulous job as they always do,” Lees said.
