Fatal Fire Update

The fatal fire has been ruled accidental, according to Johnstown Fire Chief, Bob Statler.

Statler says it was an electrical fire that started on the first floor in the front ot the Higland Avenue home.

One teenager and a younger child died in the blaze.

Identities and gender have yet to be released.

Another person inside had jumped out of a second floor window and was sent to Conemaugh Hospital with injuries

Statler says becuase of where the fire started and how fast it spread plus the layout of the home it was nearly impossible for the people inside to get out.

Statler urges residents to keep an eye out for electrical issues in their homes.

“In the long run it costs a little money but it’s better off to have an electrician come in and fix the problem then let it sit there and have a problem later. i don’t know if they were having a
problem with where we found the fire if it was an issue long term or anything but if you have issues it’s better off to get them repaired and fixed ”

Lees says DNA testing will be done to be 100 percent accurate with confirming the identities of the victims.

Those results will take 7-10 days.

He will will release the identities once he gets the results.
