COVID-19 Update January 2nd

The Department of Health did not provide an Official Coronavirus update on New Year’s Day, so the State numbers listed below are a combination of Friday and Saturday, January 1st and 2nd.

The Department of Health added a two day total of 16,967 cases to it’s Statewide totals, as Pennsylvania surpassed 650,000 cases since the start of the Pandemic. 67% of those cases are now considered to be recovered. 236 more COVID-19 related deaths were reported by the Commonwealth, bringing the Death Toll to 16,239. 5,624 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in PA. Of those patients, 1,172 are in the Intensive Care Unit.

There were 675 COVID-19 cases reported in our viewing area. Cambria County reported an additional 162 new cases, Blair had 139, Clearfield reported 107, Centre had 85, Somerset reported 63, Bedford reported 32, Elk reported 31, Jefferson reported 29, Huntingdon reported 25, and Cameron reported two additional cases.

There was just one additional death reported in the viewing area on Saturday. It comes from Centre County. To date, 1,175 COVID-19 related deaths have been reported in the 10 Counties we cover.
