COVID-19 Update December 19th

The first wave of Local Healthcare Workers received Pfizer’s Coronavirus Vaccine over the last several days. It couldn’t come at a more crucial time, as cases counts and hospitalization numbers remain high.

The Department of Health added 9,834 Coronavirus cases to it’s Statewide totals, as Pennsylvania nears 550,000 cases since the start of the Pandemic. 61% of those cases are now considered to be recovered. 217 more COVID-19 related deaths were reported by the Commonwealth, bringing the death toll to 13,825. 6,147 People are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in PA. Of those patients, 1,232 are in the Intensive Care Unit.

798 new cases were reported in our 10-County viewing area. Blair County reported an increase of 144 cases. Centre reports 141, Cambria had 119, Somerset reports 117, Huntingdon had 72, Bedford reports 64, Clearfield had 59, Elk had 45, Jefferson had 33, and Cameron reports four new cases.

There were 27 COVID-19 related deaths reported by the Department of Health in our viewing area. Blair and Cambria each reported 9, Centre reported 4, Bedford reported 2, and Clearfield, Jefferson and Somerset each reported one.
