COVID-19 Cases and Cambria County Vaccine Milestone

In the fight against the Pandemic, trends are going in the wrong direction. As kids head back to School, there are worries and debates about how to best protect them from the more contagious Delta Variant.

In at least Seven States — Mask Mandates are banned. And the number of new COVID-19 cases in the U.S. is at its worst in six months. Florida just recorded its highest number of cases of all time. Despite the promising increase in vaccinations, Health Experts are keeping a close eye on emerging variants and warn we need to do more.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases saying: “If you give the virus a chance to continue to change, you’re leading to a vulnerability that we might get a worse variant. That variant could evade the protection of the vaccine.”

Meanwhile, the FDA could be weeks away from granting Pfizer’s COVID-19 Vaccine Full Approval. More than 3 in 10 un-vaccinated adults said they would be more likely to get the shot if it’s fully approved, according to a survey from the Kaiser Family Foundation.

Locally, Cambria County is celebrating a milestone when it comes to Coronavirus vaccines. Highlands Health administered its 10,000th dose of the COVID-19 vaccine while holding a Clinic at the Oakhurt Homes. This positivity comes as the Department of Health reported more than 4,000 new COVID-19 positive cases between Saturday and Monday in the State.

A Block Party was held in conjunction with the Clinic. It featured food, music, and children’s games.
