Clearfield County Demolition Fund

According to a blight study conducted in Clearfield County in 2012, in 26 out of the 50 municipalities in Clearfield there were 323 blighted properties reported.

Lisa Kovalick, Executive Director of the Clearfield Redevelopment Authority, said blight has been in issue here for decades.

“There’s a multitude of reasons why blight becomes prevalent but one of the most significant is lack of code enforcement within that community,” she said.

To address this issue, $25,000 from the Clearfield County Demolition Fund will be given to municipalities.

Kovalick said this fund is made up of money that was collected during recordings, mortgages and deeds.

“The importance of the demolition funds is that there are no regulations tied to it, it gives the municipalities the money they need to start addressing blight in their communities,” she said.

She said municipalities will be eligible to receive grants of $7,500, “Others that are eligible besides municipalities include nonprofit organizations that are looking to forward housing initiatives also private developers.”

Municipalities can come into redevelopment office to apply for the funding, the deadline is August 31st.
