Centre County Wrestling Event

People from a dozen States are in Centre County this weekend for a Wrestling Tournament. Local Officials say they their hands are tied, they didn’t know about it and they can’t do anything to stop it. The Olympic Club Duals-Wrestling Tournament has brought in more than 1,000 Competitors, Coaches and Staff from 12 States to the C3 Sports Complex causing some in the community to worry about a potential super spreader event for the region. Especially because the area is already dealing with a Virus outbreak on Penn State’s Campus.

College Township Officials say they didn’t even know about this large scale event until Thursday morning, and Township Leaders say they don’t have the ability to stop the Tournament from happening. State College Police were actively trying to talk with Organizers about how to better limit the overload of people inside.

Organizers of the Olympic Club Dual say they are taking many precautions to limit the spread, such as taking everyone’s temperatures before walking in the building, wearing face masks, and limiting the amount of people inside the complex during meets. They also tell us they’ve had two successful events prior to this one and want to give kids here a chance to compete. Everyone taking part was asked to quarantine for 14 days prior to the weekend and although it is a contact sport, Organizers believe they are doing what they need to do to keep everyone safe.
