The Department of Health says there were 931 new cases confirmed on Wednesday. 204 cases were from our area. Centre County recorded a new single-day record with 184 cases. This new number comes after a week of new cases increase in State College and earlier this week Penn State reported over 400 COVID-19 cases on the University Park Campus. As to where the Health Department reports new COVID-19 cases, most Penn State cases for State College and University Park are counted in Centre County.
The University on Tuesday alone added 205 new cases. The State Health Department monitoring Colleges saying they’re instrumental in an emerging trend. Dr. Rachel Levine, the PA Secretary of Health saying: “One of the biggest increases right now in new cases is in 19 to 24 year olds.” Centre County Administrators recently consulting with the State Health Experts who use COVID-19 patients zip codes in determining case locations.
Earlier this week, the State Health Department naming Centre along with Blair County among 11 Counties to watch in terms of the rates of increase, in new COVID-19 cases. Penn State says there are still pending COVID-19 test results. They’re next expected to update the campus case numbers on Friday.
