A Cambria County High School Teacher is in police custody for allegedly having a year long relationship with a student.
Officials are now warning of the dangers of not knowing what children are doing on their phones.
Isaac Vescovi is facing felony charges including sexual contact with a student and unlawful contact with a minor.
Police say the relationship began in Spring of 2023.
The relationship started with school emails before Vescovi asked for the student’s Snapchat.
The relationship was going on for about a year and a half and consisted of thousands of messages including explicit pictures and at least one visit to Vescovi’s home where the two allegedly engaged in sexual activity according to investigators.
Cambria County District Attorney Greg Neugebauer says the incident was brought to law enforcement by a mandated reporter in the school district.
He says that the other way that incidents like these are brought forward is through the Safe 2 Say app which initially sends a report to the school itself which would then turn it over to law enforcement.
Neugebauer says he does recommend the app if that’s what someone is comfortable with to bring an alleged crime to the attention of investigators and also recommends parents at least keeping an eye on children’s phone activity.
“We hear from parents and we say to parents a lot, it’s okay to and you should know what your kid is doing with their cell phone. Kids younger and younger are getting cell phones and it takes a certain level of maturity to be able to handle that.”
A preliminary hearing for Vescovi is currently scheduled for October 15th.
He’s being held in the Cambria County Prison on $300-thousand dollars bail.
