The Omicron variant might not be as extensive as health officials originally thought. The CDC adjusted its estimate of the variants infection rate to a lower percentage.
They believe Omicron was responsible for 58.6% of new cases in the US last week, which is a drop from the CBC’s previous estimate, which was 73.2%.
They say since not every COVID test goes through genetic sequencing to determine what variant caused it, it’s extremely difficult to pinpoint how many cases each variant causes.
And they also say many COVID infections never get tested at all.
