A Cambria County man faces arson and assault-related charges after state police say he tried to set a home on fire with a woman and three kids still inside the residence.
Troopers say the incident happened Dec. 21, when 27-year-old Tyler Johnston got into an argument with the victim at her Boyd Street home in Reade Township.
They say Johnston started chasing the woman around the home with a box cutter, threatening to kill her, while also destroying items inside the home.
Troopers say Johnston left the home but came back with a lighter or torch type item and set fire to an outside window.
The victim and her kids where still inside the home when the fire was set, according to state police.
Troopers say they were able to find Johnston a short while later, and when asked to put his hands behind his back, Johnston ran away from troopers, saying he wasn’t going back to jail.
Troopers took him into custody after a foot chase ensued.
Court documents show Johnston is being held at the Cambria County Prison in lieu of a 10%, $250,000 bond.
