A shooting in Johnstown overnight sent one person to the hospital on what witnesses say was his 22nd birthday.
Nicole Fuschino is live at the scene now and has the latest details from county authorities and a friend of the victim who rushed to help as shots rang out
Authorities say the shooting happened here on this sidewalk on the 300 block of 2nd Avenue in Cambria City.
It was a scary night for everyone involved but the District Attorney tells me the man is expected to survive.
Thursday Night Courtney Croyle was working at Liquid Currency her family’s business when the terrifying events unfolded right before her eyes.
“I was helping the girl in the kitchen, and wiping tables and stuff off, and somebody screamed, ‘Shots fired! Everybody get down!'”
Croyle says as everybody else ran away she joined her Uncle & Cousin In running to the scene to help.
“I couldn’t even believe it was him whenever I came outside. I was just like I couldn’t even believe it was him.”
She says she used to work with the victim and that he’s a family friend.
“My uncle took off his belt and wrapped it around him. Somebody else offered their belt and he tied it around to stop the bleeding.”
Croyle says she helped him until the paramedics arrived and took him to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center.
“I had his head on my lap and was talking to him. He was telling me to call his mom. All he kept saying was, ‘I’m alive, I’m alive!’ And I’m like, yes you are.”
Cambria County District Attorney Greg Neubaurer says
One person involved with the incident was arrested on scene, but that the shooter is still trying to be identified.
“He is not in custody at the moment. The Johnstown Police Department is pursuing all investigative leads to attempt to identify the individual in question.”
Courtney says she was sad to see something so bad happen to a good person.
“It was his birthday yesterday. He turned 22. It’s just sad. It’s really sad. Innocent people, you know.”
