A possible cornerstone for future downtown development in a Centre County community is still undergoing changes while still on the drawing board.
It is termed the Waterfront District Project in Bellefonte.
Development in the area along Spring Creek recently received a boost with the opening of a new dining area at the nearby Gamble Mill.
In 2018, plans were unveiled for the Waterfront Project construction on the adjoining property.
It’s to include a hotel, parking garage, and offices.
“We’re still optimistic we’re going to see development,” said Bellefonte Borough Manager Ralph Stewart. “The developers are now looking at starting in the spring of 2022. They have been making changes to the hotel, due the industry and COVID. They’re looking at additional condominiums in the hotel.
That could also downsize the number of guest rooms planned for the hotel.
The wall and walkway along the nearby section of Spring Creek was built by the borough several years ago.
