There’s an annual tournament in Bellefonte that brings both beginners and pros together to play a good old fashion game of Croquet.
The Victorian game is back in a Victorian Place.
“Where else do you get to play with mallets and whack balls around?”
It’s not the Olympics but a tradition continued as the the Bellefonte Intervalley Area Chamber of Commerce held their 17th annual Croquet Tournament in Talleyrand Park this Afternoon.
The organization’s executive director says its a game that matches the picturesque setting.
“Croquet is the quintessential Victorian sport, and it goes way, way back in history. What could be more Victorian in the summer in Victorian Bellefonte than a croquet tournament?
The president of the BIACC board says the tournament also benefits the local business community.
“This is our largest fundraiser that we have for the Chamber and each year, we keep getting a few more teams that want to come out, and it’s just; it’s good, family fun.”
When Tami Schuster first moved to town
“I thought wow, they’re playing croquet?’ I mean, this was such an old sport.”
Now the game has grown on her.
An old game still providing classic entertainment.
