Bedford County is 250 years old this year.
Residents celebrated together with a sestercentennial event Saturday morning outside the Bedford County Courthouse.
Visitors listened to music and speeches while honoring the place they call home.
Bedford County formed out of Cumberland County on March 9th, 1771.
Because of the chilly weather, organizers moved the celebration to Saturday, which is “May Day.”
Organizers were dressed up as people from the 1770s to celebrate.
Larry Smith, Chairperson for the Sestercentennial Celebrations Committee, said they hope the event was a heartfelt time for Bedford County natives.
“I hope they feel pride in the fact that Bedford County has been here this long and has not changed too much. It has stayed a quaint but vibrant area to live in,”
