The twist and turns continue in Cleveland over the quarterback situation.
Baker Mayfield is out and on the move to the Carolina Panthers
The Browns former 1st overall draft pick from 2018 has been traded after 4 seasons.
Cleveland agreed to trade Mayfield to the Carolina Panthers in exchange for a 2024 conditional draft pick
The Panthers will pay $4.85 million of Mayfields salary while the Browns will pay $10.5 million.
Mayfield agreed to convert the remainder of his salary which is $18.8 million dollars into incentives to facilitate the deal.
Relations between Mayfield and the Browns organization took a turn for the worst when Cleveland made the blockbuster deal with the Houston Texans for Quarterback Deshaun Watson.
The 5-year deal with a guaranteed$ $230 million for Watson is the richest deal in guaranteed money in history for the NFL.
Even though that money is guaranteed, Watson is not guaranteed to play this season
Watson could be suspended for at least a year. He was accused in civil lawsuits by 25 women for sexual assault and inappropriate behavior during massage sessions.
Watson’s hearing before the NFL and NFLPA concluded Thursday.
Disciplinary officer Judge Sue L. Robinson is expected to release a decision next week after a review of post-hearing briefs from both sides
So if Watson is suspended Jacoby Brissett would be next in line for Cleveland. Behind him is former Pittsburgh Steelers Josh Dobbs
The quarterback situation in Carolina is intresting too, Baker Mayfield isn’t guaranteed the starting spot. He will have to battle with Sam Darnold on the role of QB1
And remember the Panthers drafted a QB this year. Matt Corral from Ole Miss
