Lawrence Township police say one person was arrested early Thursday morning after causing flooding at the Super 8 Hotel located along the Clearfield/Shawville Highway.
Police say officers and crews with the Lawrence Township Fire Company were dispatched to the hotel, around 3 a.m., for a fire alarm and reports of flooding inside a first floor room.
Fire crews say sprinklers inside the room had been activated and caused major flooding into other parts of the hotel.
Officers say the room was being rented by 32-year-old Aaron Schmitt, of Clearfield, who later began fighting with police when questioned about the flooding.
Police say they also discovered burnt paper in the room, as well as in the water, resulting in Schmitt being taken into custody.
Investigators say he has been arraigned to the Clearfield County Jail and faces charges of attempted arson, criminal mischief and resisting arrest.
Police note that there was also a cat found inside Schmitt’s room, which he reportedly threw onto the ground when he fought with officers.
