A dis-order in which a person has difficulty recovering after experiencing or witnessing a terrifying event. A condition of persistent mental and emotional stress occurring as a result of injury or severe psychological shock, typically involving disturbance of sleep and constant vivid recall of the experience, with dulled responses to others and to the outside world." The number of Veterans and First Responders who have been diagnosed with PTSD has quintupled since 2000, We are seeing an increased number of them using drugs and/or alcohol as a means of self-medicating. Suicide rates have increased due to PTSD as well. There is also a growing number of children who are becoming victims of abuse and neglect or who will experience a traumatic event during their childhood years. These children can develop PTSD that may carry into adulthood. I have taken it a couple of times and learn something new each time. Our "Professor", Rev. Dr. Dave Ervine is a great communicator and has a unique way of presenting the information so that the student can easily understand it and apply it if needed. His stories and humor make the time fly by and has you wishing the seminar was longer. This seminar is fitting for those involved in the military, for first responders, counselors, those in the medical field, friends and family members of those challenged by PTSD, and the general public. Beyond talking about the trauma experienced by military personnel and first responders, "Professor" Ervine also dives deeply into how trauma that may have been experienced in childhood can lead to adult PTSD. This college level seminar is only $35, and a certificate of completion worth 7 hours of Continuing Education Credits will be given to everyone who completes the seminar." - Darrell Shildt, President/CEO, Day One Ministries
