Description:Local wine lovers are invited to learn more about viniculture, viticulture and the sensory evaluation of wine in Penn State’s Fall 2019 Wine Appreciation course. “This course concentrates on the sensory elements of wine and with emphasis on Old World and New World traditions, food pairing, and the practice of responsible tasting,” said Donna Quadri-Felitti, PhD, Marvin Ashner Director and Associate Professor, School of Hospitality Management. Paul Woolley, Penns Valley resident who participated in the spring semester course, said, “It’s a broad survey with a significant amount of depth. It is a comprehensive class for anyone wanting to learn about wine, particularly the viniculture (making of wine) and viticulture (cultivation and harvesting).” He added that one of the best features of the course is that both instructors strongly encourage participation and notes, “Anyone who takes this class will have much better understanding about wines and how to better enjoy them.” Class meets every Thursday of the fall semester from 4:35 p.m. - 6:30 p.m., beginning August 29, 2019 with the final class on December 12, 2019. All classes are held in the Keller Building on the Penn State University Park Campus with convenient parking in the Nittany Lion Parking Garage. All participants must be 21 years of age, with valid photo identification. This is a combined course that mixes Penn State students taking the class for credit with adults from the community taking it for non-credit.
