Title:History Talk: Native People & Their Paths
Description:History Talk: “Native People and Their Paths in Central Pennsylvania” By Ralph Seeley Join the Centre County Historical Society on Sunday, August 26 at 2:00 p.m. for “Native People and Their Paths in Central Pennsylvania” by Ralph Seeley at the Centre Furnace Mansion. Through this program, based on Seeley’s book by the same name, Ralph fills in gaps and dispels some myths about the earliest inhabitants of our area using maps, images and “word pictures” to put visually take you into early Pennsylvania forests. Native People and Their Paths will appeal to hikers, nature lovers and those interested in the Native American’s that once lived in and passed through Central Pennsylvania. Ralph will highlight the historical research that has uncovered documents, photos, and maps through an illustrated presentation and be available to sign books that will be available for sale. The program is free and open to the public. Donations are graciously accepted. Seating is limited. The Centre Furnace Mansion is located at 1001 E. College Avenue, State College. Event parking is available on the lower lawn along College Avenue, as well as in the Mansion lot off of Porter Road. Visitors may also park behind Esber’s Rugs and Letterman’s restaurant. Description:DISCOVER DOWNTOWN CUMBERLAND WELCOMES THE JOEY HARKUM SOLO TOUR The Downtown Development Commission and Discover Downtown Cumberland will hold a special Labor Day weekend Friday Night Live this evening, Friday August 31st from 6 – 9 PM on The McCoury Family Stage located at 1 N. Liberty Street in Downtown Cumberland featuring one of the State of Maryland's favorite singer/ songwriters, Joey Harkum, to launch the Labor Day Weekend festivities. Joey Harkum is a singer songwriter hailing from Pasadena, MD. For over a decade, Joey has performed all around the country as the lead singer of the band Pasadena. Joey has a unique way of connecting with his fans through deep, poignant lyrics which tell stories of happiness, love, loss and sadness. Joey is currently on his first solo venture and is touring the nation performing his own special brand of Americana, folk rock. He is a regular summertime favorite on Maryland’s Eastern Shore playing at many Ocean City, MD hotspots such as The 2nd Street Caribbean Pool Bar, Riptide Pool Bar, Ropewalk, Oceans 13, Harpoon Hanna’s and Pickles Pub Ocean City. “I used to live and work in Ocean City and I have many friends who are now bar owners throughout the coastal town. After continuously hearing them talk about and post about this guy, Joey Harkum, I had to check him out and realized that he would be a great fit for our holiday weekend here in Cumberland” says Dave Love of the DDC “he will actually leave Cumberland and go directly back to Ocean City where he will be performing Saturday night September 1st at my buddy’s bar, Pickles Pub on 8th Street and Philadelphia Avenue for the Labor Day holiday” continues Love. “Joey Harkum is a wonderfully talented musician and performer. He has a magnetic presence and exudes positive energy. A true crowd pleaser. Cumberland should be proud to host him – they are gonna love him.” says Justin Acita, owner and operator along with his wife Brittney, of Pickles Pub Ocean City. Joey performed last weekend throughout New York City and will continue his first solo tour after Cumberland & Ocean City for dates throughout September in Arbutus, Lutherville and Baltimore in Maryland; Buffalo, New York; Pittsburgh, PA; Canton, OH; Englewood & Pueblo, CO; Boonville, IN; and Chicago, IL.
