Description:The Penn State Master Gardeners of Centre County will host their third annual Home Gardening School on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at the Forest Resources Building on the University Park Campus. The day's events will kick off with a keynote address about Design Principles for a Beautiful, Productive, and Sustainable Garden by Shari Edelson, Director of Horticulture and Curator at The Arboretum at Penn State. Open to all members of the public, this year's symposium will feature new classes based on two themes. "Best Practices" will offer experienced insights into how to get the best results from your garden, with topics including integrated pest management, gardening on a budget, pruning woody ornamentals, and dealing with invasive plants. "Personalizing Your Landscape Design" will explore how to tailor your garden to your taste and needs with sessions on shade gardening, native plants, four season design, and gardening in small spaces. The Home Gardening School will include door prizes and a boxed lunch. The registration fee is $65 and the registration deadline is Friday, March 10, 2017. Description:March 18 – DOCUMENTARY: “You Enter Germany – Bloody Huertgen and the Siegfried Line” Between September 1944 and February 1945 thirteen U.S. Army divisions fought for control of a 50 square mile area of dense forest along the German border. It was the longest single battle in American history and largest defeat of the U.S. Army in Europe. This 2007 German production tells that story with veteran’s interviews and archival footage. Description:For Immediate Release: Golden Gloves Boxing Returns to DuBois, PA for the 5th Consecutive Year DuBois, PA (January 18, 2017) - The Western Pennsylvania Police Athletic League (WPAL) is thrilled to announce the return of the Golden Glove’s Championships to the DuBois Area for the fifth consecutive year. And this year’s event will feature numerous local prospects, products of the recently opened boxing and fitness center in DuBois. The DuBois Country Club, recovered and “bigger and better than ever” after it was destroyed by a devastating fire three years ago, will welcome boxers and fans to this year’s event on Saturday, March 18. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Boxing will begin at 7:30 p.m. “The evening will feature approximately eight live bouts ranging from first round to semi-final fights in various weight classes and divisions.” Aaron Beatty, Executive Director of the WPAL Boxing and Fitness Center Committee, said. “The fights are sure to be intense!” Coached by Hall of Fame Coach Joe Helman of Punxsutawney; Dakota Herman of DuBois, Jennifer Young of St. Marys, Rod Sibble of Falls Creek, Becca Maine and Mark Powell of Punxsutawney and Nico McDonald and Nick Gordon of Reynoldsville have all been training hard for their chance to compete. The winners advance to the next round of the Pennsylvania Golden Gloves tournament. All open division boxers are fighting to earn their spot to represent the Pennsylvania Golden Gloves Boxing Team at the 2017 National Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions in Lafayette, Louisiana. Tickets for the event are $25 for General Admission and $100 for VIP Gold Ringside. VIP Gold Ringside tickets include a complimentary Pre-Party and Swag Bag.
