|Title:||Altoona Community Band Concert|
|Description:||The Altoona Community Band is a group of @ 35 all volunteer, amateur band musicians. The band performs free concerts at various venues both in the summer months and the holiday season. Many of the venues are at Nursing Homes and assisted living facilities.
We also perform at Public events such as the Concerts on the lawn at Baker Mansion, The Blair County Arts Festival at Penn State Altoona, and the summer concert series at the Valley View Park in Altoona.
The band is under the direction of Mr. Dan Klingbeil a former band director at Juniata Valley High School and currently is a full time Non Commissioned Officer with the 28th Division Band of the PAARNG. Dan is also a talented composer and the group has performed several of his works. He also plays trumpet with the band.
He is assisted by Mr. David Bailey who studied at Mansfield University and is a former member of the 28th Division Band. David plays Bass trombone in addition to directing some numbers and aiding in the researching and selection of music.
For the past few years the band has been performing their final holiday season Concert at First Baptist Church Altoona located at 1209 17th Street. The Greek Revival Style church has a domed ceiling in the main auditorium and has excellent acoustics for live music. This concert will be performed on Wednesday December 20th at 7:00PM and lasts approximately one hour.
This concert is free admission and the public is urged to attend. The Directors have selected a wide variety of both sacred and secular holiday music. Some are familiar such as Leroy Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride” and “ Christmas Festival” others are fairly new arrangements of Christmas music with a new interpretation.
