WWCP-TV signed on, along with Translator WWPC, October 13, 1986. Originally both WWCP and WWPC were independent broadcast facilities, within 10 months of going on the air WWCP became the FOX affiliate for the region. In 1988, WWPC became WATM and picked up the ABC affiliation.

ABC 23 and FOX 8’s transmitters are located on Laurel Mountain in Ligonier, PA, and on Wopsy Mountain in Altoona, PA, with offices at 1450 Scalp Avenue, Johnstown, PA, 234 East College Avenue, State College, PA and at 1107 East Walton Avenue, Altoona, PA.

WWCP FOX 8 is owned by Peak Media of Pennsylvania and WATM ABC 23 is owned by Palm Television, LP with a LMA for Peak to run the station.

ABC 23 is a full-time affiliate of the ABC Television Network offering the complete ABC network program schedule, local news, and popular syndicated programming. FOX 8 is a full-time affiliate of the FOX Television Network offering the complete FOX network program schedule, local news, and popular syndicated programming.
