The Van Zandt Medical Center in Altoona is making sure that veterans and staff are not exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 before they even leave their vehicles. The hospital has restricted access to Pleasant Valley Boulevard, now operating two entry points. The screening consists of four questions designed to assess health and potential exposure to COVID-19. If someone is exhibiting symptoms, officials say they will be giving a mask and quarantined until they can see a healthcare provider officals say they want to create a controlled environment to minimize the spread of any diseases. Many of their patients or visitors are in a vulnerable age range and must be protected. "We are taking the utmost precaution to make sure that all veterans, visitors and employees are safe and this is one of those precautions. If a veteran is feeling sick or ill, we encourage them to give us a call ahead of time and we are using our tele-help system to provide care."
