The former treasurer of a Cambria County school district parent teacher organization is facing criminal charges after stealing thousands from the organization, according to a criminal complaint. Police say 45-year-old Brittany Anderson was on the board of Westmont Hilltop Elementary School's PTO when school officials in April came across a check that totaled $26,000 written out to the law firm of Gleason, Markovitz and Barbin a law firm that Anderson worked for and was charged with stealing from in March. Police said the partners with the law firm told them they had never represented the Westmont PTO for any legal proceedings nor legal representation. Later in May, police said Anderson had emailed school officials hoping to avoid criminal charges being filed by offering the school a $25,000 settlement. In a Facebook post, the school district said the PTO will seek to recover the lost funds. "At this point, the PTO is focused on improving financial oversight, and will continue to support our students and the efforts of the Elementary School. Finally I encourage parents to get involved with the PTO"
