Bedford Microburst

The National Weather Service has confirmed that a wet microburst hit Bedford County. The NWS says the microburst hit the Defiance area in Broad Top Township. Officials with the NWS say they are not going to survey the affected area and arrived at their conclusion by watching video of the weather event tha a viewer shot. A microburst is a strong downburst in a thunderstorm that is less than 2.5 miles in scale. Microbursts are not considered tornadoes but sometimes can cause comparable, or even worse damage than a tornado. There are wet and dry microbursts. Wet microbursts are accompanied by precipitation.
