In the wake of the deadly officer-involved shooting in State College that killed Osaze Osagie, mental health programs and training for officers are now being further examined. Osagie was killed in March, after police say he charged at them with a knife, while they were trying to serve a mental health warrant. From 2017 to 2018 mental health warrant requests more than tripled in Centre County. Mental health programs currently cost taxpayers over $6 million a year. State College Borough council is leading the evaluation process.
