Community members and lawmakers came together to discuss vehicle emissions testing Friday. The meeting was held by the Senate Transportation Committee in Latrobe. Sen. Wayne Langerholc says he has been working to get several counties exempt from emissions testing. He says for nearly a decade, our region has met federal air quality standards, so it makes sense for local motorists to no longer have to pay for costly and unnecessary testing that may be needed in more urban areas. "We got different options from the DEP as well as some of the other stakeholders but I'm not satisfied,I feel that based on what we've done, as well as the current law and clean air act, there's no reason Cambria and these other counties can't be removed from this emissions requirement." Some local auto repair employees we spoke with are against doing away with emissions testing.
