SCI Somerset is locked down Monday after an inmate assaulted a correctional officer over the weekend, officials say. Officials say the prison was locked down Sunday night around 8:30 p.m. after the assault. They say no weapons were involved. The corrections officer involved was treated at a local emergency room before being released. The inmate suspect was taken to a restricted housing unit and transferred to another facility, officials say. Meanwhile, officials say visitations are still allowed at the facility. Authorities say the lockdown is expected to continue throughout Monday as they monitor the situation. SCI Benner Township was also locked down Monday after an incident between inmates happened over the weekend, according to officials but has since been lifted. Officials say the incident happened Saturday evening and was isolated between inmates. Officials say there were no injuries. SCI Benner Township officials released the following statement Benner Township is currently locked down and is operating under a limited state of emergency. The facility has been locked down since Saturday evening due to an isolated incident that occurred between multiple inmates. There were no injuries that occurred nor was there any threat to staff or inmate population. The facility's Visiting Room is currently opened for visits. This comes less than two weeks after officials say an inmate was found unresponsive in his cell which was later ruled homicide by the Centre County coroner.
