The opioid epidemic continues to ravage the state and many are working to reverse the numbers and get those addicted back on a healthy path. We're taking a look at how two groups have come together to help those affected by addiction. "One in four families are affected and there's a lot of people out there with a lot of family members that are suffering if not themselves." After recognizing a need in the community. They founded the safe foundation. "Once I started working with rehab and halfway houses, that there wasn't anything for women." So she went to work with the goal of creating a safe place for the women in recovery from addiction. "After lot of times, relocation is a matter of life or death." That purchase was the first step. The house needed to be completely stripped down to the foundation and rebuilt back up to help not only with the house but with the mission of helping those in recovery. She contacted mr. Help. It's a contracting business that employs those in recovery. "We try to give back to the community. It's hard for people to find jobs that are struggling in the community. I'll go to the halfway house or the meetings, and offer temporary work to show them a trade enough so that they can go out and find a job on their own." It stems from their own experiences. "February 11th. I'll have 11 years clean." "I have myself and family that passed cause of it. And it means a lot." The next steps are getting the electricity, plumbing, and heating settle up. And some of the processes have been donated by local contracts. The aim is to have the house up and running by this summer. But until then they have a message. "It's so easy to get caught up with. I'm by myself and so lonely, and it can be so cold at times. But you're not by yourself. And it gives the women hope that they're not by themselves no more." "You can overcome it and do things for the best for other people and yourself."
