Two Clearfield County men are facing charges for a theft and an arson at a Clearfield County home in May, officials said. Nevin Kruise, 27, and Stephen Zimmerman, 22, are facing numerous charges including arson, theft burglary, receiving stolen property, criminal use of a communication facility and reckless burning and several other charges. According to Lawrence Township police, an officer responded to a home on Lawana Lane May 24 after the homeowner said his home was burglarized. Police said a red Polaris ATV, passports, jewelry and electronics were taken from the home and there was moderate fire damage inside the home. Police said a gun safe was also tampered with, with the tools that appeared to be used to break it open were left behind. The home had an odor of gasoline and when a fire marshal was called to the scene he deemed it to be arson. According to the complaint, on June 6, a witness came forward and said that Zimmerman was selling the ATV on Facebook. Police said they arranged to meet up with Zimmerman at Glen Richey Fire Hall June 9 and he was taken into custody at that time. Police said Zimmerman identified Kruise as a co conspirator and told police details of the burglary and arson. State police were able to take Kruise into custody June 9. Kruise is in the Clearfield County Jail on $100,000 bail and Zimmerman on $50,000. Both men have preliminary hearings set for June 20.
