In the spirit of the holidays, an Elk County police department may waive the issuance of a traffic ticket to benefit Christmas gifts for kids. The St. Marys City Police Department started the Cops for Kids program Monday. Officers may waive the issuance of a citation and issue a warning for minor traffic violations. Officers will offer a flyer that reads "In the spirit of the holidays, we are waiving the issuance of a citation in hopes that you will drop off an unwrapped toy to our police department." All the toys will benefit Projects Gifts for Elk County, an organization that gives new toys to less fortunate children. The Saint Marys City Police Department is also happy to receive any donations to Project Gifts for Elk County at any time. There is no need to have been stopped for a traffic violation. Unwrapped toys can be dropped off at the Police Department at 319 Erie Avenue in Saint Marys.
